Tri State Truck Center Unveils Sponsored Classroom at Universal Technical Institute
Exposing Massachusetts' Workforce to the Many Opportunities in the Trucking Industry
FAQ's
01
Why did Tri State Truck Center get involved with Universal Technical Institute?
Universal Technical Institute (UTI) is the only NATEF (National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation) accredited post-secondary technical institution in Massachusetts that offers a diesel technician program. We strongly believe that it is our job, as a Heavy Truck Dealership in the transportation industry, to invest in educating our future diesel technicians. Our industry is relying on these students to keep our trucks moving in order to continue providing our services to all the other industries who rely on trucks to get their products to where they need to be.
02
Is Tri State Truck Center only focusing on Universal Technical Institute right now?
No, we have also begun discussions with Worcester South High, who are working to gain vocational status, and start a diesel technician program. There is only one vocational high school, Greater New Bedford Vocational Technical High School, who offers a NATEF accredited diesel technician secondary education program in Massachusetts. We want to help Worcester South High achieve their vocational status, so that there is one more secondary school offering a diesel technician program to students at the high school level who show interest in the field. The earlier we can get students exposed to our industry, the more success we will have in combatting this hiring crisis, and the more opportunity we will have to find young people that are truly interested in becoming diesel technicians
03
What will happen if this crisis is not resolved?
This crisis is not just going to affect the transportation industry. It will directly impact the majority of industries in our country who rely on trucks to move their goods. For instance, if trucks stopped moving for 24 hours, there would be no way for medical supplies to be delivered, hospitals would run out of basic supplies, service stations would begin to run out of fuel, US Mail and other package delivery services would stop, and food shortages would begin, and that is only after 24 hours.
04
What does Tri State Truck Center want to see happen as a result of their sponsorship efforts?
The reason that we invested so much time and money into making the UTI Classroom completely unique from anything that has ever been done is because we knew that we were doing this for more than just our company; we did this for our industry. Our hope is that other companies within the transportation industry will rise to the occasion, and invest in education to encourage younger people to get involved in our industry, and see the opportunities that are available to them. This crisis is far too large for one company to solve; we need our industry, the industries that rely on us, and our government officials to work together to see that this crisis is resolved.
